Zaphira

I can’t believe it has been a month already since I last wrote! Well here is what has been happening in the world of bellydance down South…

On Saturday 18th July, I held a drum solo workshop to Hossam Ramzy’s Eshta in Hailsham, which had a mixed group of students from different areas attending. It was incredibly well received and lots of fun was had by all!

Hossam and Serena Ramzy, (my mentors) held their first ever workshops in Brighton on Sunday 2nd August and it was absolutely fantastic! We learnt a beautiful song from Flamenco Arabe II which me and Bonita have decided to re-work and use for Egyptian Nights II, and I can’t wait for the next workshops in November!

Zaphira’s Iris also now have a beautiful puppy called Dobby! Welcome to the club of sleepless nights, toilet training, destruction of household objects….Need I go on?

The following weekend me and Zaphira trekked up to London for Saqarah’s 2nd Birthday, and despite the stressful journey, had a brilliant time. (Stress including, cars braking down, juggling babies on the underground, need I say more?) Zaphira opened the set with Hakim’s “El Wala Wala” and did a grand job considering the lack of space! I performed a track from Hossam’s Sabla Tolo II in the 2nd half, and we saw some fabulous dancers, (Kia, ALina, Nafiseh)…..we even met up with Katie Holland who I’ve not seen for over a year since she relocated to Goa! There was also Phil Thornton…and the Bellydance Legend Vashti in attendance…..

Also, the tickets for Egyptian Nights II are on sale! Woo Hoo! Plans are taking shape, the choreography is nearly finnished and all the outside preperations are being worked on….Which means….Get in there quick for tickets as over half have already sold!

Finally, in a sad sort of note, I have unfortunately had to leave ACRES adult education, all students have been made aware of recent developments, but I have decided to return to Midwifery and consolidate my training before my skills as a Midwife are lost. Thank you to all my Adult Ed students for the cards and gifts, you have all been such wonderful people to know and i do hope you will all continue to dance, whether with me or elsewhere. The Eastbourne double class and Zaphira will keep going, as well as any workshops, performances, and of course my work with Hossam and Serena Ramzy. But, as you can appreciate, there will be alot of juggling over the coming months and I have received an overwhelming amount of support from other teachers to help out whilst these changes take place, so thankyou again!
