Rotherfield Hafla

Well, what a brilliant night! I can honestly say that this was one of the best hafla’s I’ve been to in a long time!
We spent the afternoon rehearsing, and yes, nearly everything seemed to be going wrong! Music not working, mistakes, slipping on the floor, well you know what they say….bad rehearsal, good show!
Il Nana were 3rd in the 1st set and we managed to fit all 11 of us on stage for “Zeina”. We all came away pleased with our efforts and all the hard work had paid off! See above picture. Well done girls! We then sat down and enjoyed the rest of the 1st half, which included a brilliant bedoiun tribal number by Uska Dara.
Next it was a chance to change and get ready for Zaphira, with all that tribal gear. We waited in the wings watching my teacher Serena’s beautiful dancing, and we all looked at eachother and went; “we’ve got to follow HER!” But, despite the nerves, Zaphira gave the best troupe performance since the last October show. In those 5 minutes, all the stress and effort seemed worth it as they all performed brilliantly, and I was so proud of them all!!!
Then it was a dash to the soloist’s changing area, where Sylvia, Bex and Tina helped me change costume in record time ready for my solo to “Sanatein”. Again, despite the bad rehearsal, I was still smiling from the last performance, and I really enjoyed it. Serena was waiting in the wings for me, ready to go on for her finale – a fabulous drum solo, watched with awe and admiration.
There was an incredible amount of positive feedback, from students, teachers and complete strangers, so thankyou. All the comments mean so much, and it is always lovely when people enjoy what we do! Hossam was also very impressed with the work we presented! And I am so grateful to all you lovely ladies for making a fabulous show as alwaysx
After such a mad day, it was then only fitting that the next 2 days would continue in the same vain. I had dance course, me and Bonita were slightly worse for wear, which took place the following day – a full day of Saidi! Then I taught a special private workshop on the monday followed by my usual classes!!! I have actually pulled muscles! Of course, somewhere I have to begin choreography for the next show dances, and of course, race for life training! Who could forget?

Absolutely blinding night, fantastic performances all round- particularly Zaphira! And even though it’s taken me about a month to recover, I wish every show was that enjoyable to both watch and perform- well done girls!!
