Sorry it's been so long!

All I can say is…It’s been soooooooooooooooo busy in the dance world, I simply have not had the time to write, but here it goes…

Although it was a slow, snowy start to the year, we have certainly made up for it! New to the website are the show reels from Egyptian Nights II in the Gallery / video section, including my interview. Feel free to peruse and add comments as usual!

February was the Mira Betz intensive hosted by Hilde, which myself and Zaphira’s Sarah Fay attended. It was 5 days of inspiration, not just from the Fabulous Mira herself, but from the sheer talent in the room of all the other students, some of whom I will certainly stay in touch with! Both me and Sarah felt it difficult to put into words what and how much we had learnt, because it was on so many levels, emotionally, spiritually, physically and mentally, and my body is still aching, but it was great to give myself that personal challenge, and I know I am not the same dancer!

Saturday 27th March was the Aziza Showcase weekend. Me and Sylvia attended her Advanced veil workshop, (although we almost didn’t make it due to the sheer high volume of traffic!). She makes her tricks seem effortless, but she had such an infectous smile and glamerous dance style, that you could not help but feel inspired! The evening show hosted a line up of professionals from all over the UK, (including me!) and it was a beautiful event set in a 1960’s ballroom in Croydon. Zaphira’s Kath also came to support the event and we had such a good night.

Next week there is no beginners class, due to rehearsals for th Uckfield halfa. Il Nana is 6.30 til 8pm, Zaphira is 8 til 9.30pm, both classes will be £9 to cover studio hire and will be dress rehearsal!

Next week, Sat 17th April is the Uckfield “shimmy shimmy” hafla at Uckfield Civic Centre from 7pm hosted by Uska Dara. Tickets are £10 and can be obtained on the door or by conacting Bonita, (see link page). This year is a new venue and hosts myself, my intermediate class Il Nana, Zaphira and a performance from the Ramzy Dance Company including soloists! A mix of Professionals and Amateurs, it will be a fun night for a good cause as all the funds raised will be going to charity.
Rehearsals during the day are from 2.30 til 3pm, and i will bring the running order into class.

On Wed 21st April are Zaphira auditions, held during the Zaphira class from 8.30pm at Bishop Bell School Dance studio.

Wed 12th May, the classes will be covered by local teacher Joyce Rook, this will be a chance to see how another teacher dances and learn a new style as she specialises in folkloric.

On Saturday May 15th is the Reading show with Hossam and Serena Ramzy and members of the Ramzy dance company, (including me!) The weekend includes workshops and the main show includes the Ramzy orchestra. Please note – that this show is part of their world tour, and we expect a sell out, so DO NOT LEAVE THIS TIL THE LAST MINUTE TO BOOK! Tickets are available through their website, at the Uckfield hafla, or i can purchase them for you. This will be one of the Dance highlights of the year, and is such a rare opportunity to see my mentor, Serena perform with a live orchestra – she is probably one of the greatest bellydancers in the world, and is described as the Naima Akef of her time! Oh yeah, and us Ramzy dancers are also in it too!!!!! Although it may be a distance for some of you, there is excellent accomodation around, shy not make a girly weekend of it, take in the workshops and the show?

There will be no class Wed 26th May as I will be holidaying in Ibiza, but there WILL be a class during half term week.

Information regarding the Grand Harem Afternoon will soon be available on Sunday 27th June from 2 til 5pm at Herstmonceux Village Hall hosted by me and Chloe of Hipsinc. Tickets are £5, but if you wish to perform, you will need to book your slot by the end of May. Remember this is a ladies only event, and there will be mini treatments and second hand bellydance wear on offer, as well as hand made jewellery, makeovers and henna!

Finally, I have been narrowed down to one of 10 finalists for Bellydance Mania 2010 held in Leicester on 11th June. It’s incredibly exciting, (and also rather scary!) For booking details, see www.bellydancemania.com. The panel includes the legendary Nagwa Foaud, Randa Kamal, Maria de Silva and Anne White from Planet Egypt.

Happy Dancing!
